Bridging the gap between investor capital and high-performance energy assets in the Greek market
Unlock the Potential of Greece's Energy Market with OMNIPHOS
Investing in the Greek energy market, especially in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), offers substantial opportunities. With increasing demand for renewable energy and grid modernization, BESS projects are becoming vital.
OMNIPHOS provides the expertise and resources needed to capitalize on these opportunities, ensuring sustainable and profitable investments in Greece’s energy sector.
Leverage your assets by using clean energy
Add a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to your photovoltaic installation to increase your return on investment.
By installing a BESS at your industrial facility, you can maximize energy efficiency and significantly minimize operating costs.
Expanding Energy Opportunities
Greek BESS market
Explosive RES growth → grid stress: Greece is rapidly expanding PV and wind, but curtailments and grid congestion are rising. BESS is now seen as critical infrastructure to absorb surplus RES, stabilize the grid, and reduce wasted green energy.
Clear policy push for standalone storage: The government has introduced dedicated support schemes and tenders for standalone BESS (separate from PV), with priority grid access and revenue stacking (energy arbitrage, ancillary services, congestion management), making storage a bankable asset class.
Merchant + regulated hybrid revenue model: BESS projects in Greece combine market revenues (day-ahead/intraday arbitrage, balancing market, FCR/FFR-like services) with regulated or contracted revenues from capacity/support mechanisms, improving project financeability compared to pure merchant models.
Strong pipeline, early-mover advantage: There is a fast-growing project pipeline (GW-scale in licenses), but the market is still early-stage—meaning first movers can secure prime grid nodes, better terms with OEMs/EPCs, and premium valuations as utilities, funds, and IPPs rush to build storage portfolios.
Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
At OMNIPHOS, we are committed to answering your queries about sustainable energy solutions and our services.
Can I add batteries to my photovoltaic installation?
Yes. Law 5151/2024 (Article 40) and its more recent amendment through Law 5261/2025 (Article 56) provide a clear legal basis for converting existing PV plants into Category 11A hybrid stations — i.e., stations that combine photovoltaic generation with energy storage.
Which plants are eligible to enter this process?
Eligible PV plants are those that:
- Were commissioned after 4 July 2019, or
- Are new stations that have received a Grid Connection Offer (GCO) but had not been commissioned by 1 December 2025, or
- Are new stations that will receive a Grid Connection Offer in the future,
and hold a Power Purchase Agreement or an Operating Support Contract (Feed-in Premium or Fixed Price).
Can the hybrid station participate in balancing markets?
Yes. Category 11A hybrid systems have the unique advantage of being able to provide reserves without simultaneous energy provision — a flexibility that purely generation-based stations do not possess.
Can I apply fo a new standalone BESS?
Of course. However, careful selection of the project location is essential, as many applications are already in the queue for Grid Connection Terms.
We will assess your specific needs and propose an optimized, technically and commercially sound solution.
